Jennifer E. Voorlas
      M.S.G - C.M.C

Jennifer has worked in the field of gerontology for over 10 years, incorporating many disciplines integral to understanding quality of life issues for elders and their families.

Jennifer attended Antioch University Los Angeles where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and began her work with older adults. From the beginning she was interested in the emotional challenges facing aging adults and with the concerns they had regarding the process

She began practicing eldercare management because she found it allowed her to use her skills and knowledge bridging the physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of the aging process: allowing her to assist not only the aging parent but the adult children and the family support systems which are often involved.

Her career in gerontology further developed while working for the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center at The University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1998, where she received her Master’s degree in Gerontology. It was there that she administrated and implemented a community outreach program for “at risk seniors” with Dementia/Alzheimer’s. This Memory Enhancement Seminar for Seniors (MESS) involved teaching proactive strategies to keep memory sharp, as well as educating seniors about the differences between normal vs. abnormal memory changes. While at USC she co-authored a manual for teachers on how to replicate this proactive model in the community.

Jennifer then went on to achieve National Certification (CMC) in geriatric care management—awarded by the National Association of Certified Care Managers (NACCM). She is a member of the National Association of Professional Care Managers, and a leader on the Special Features Committee for Inside GCM a trade journal for care managers across the country sharing cutting edge research and practicum information. She frequently publishes in their trade journal about pertinent issues related to best serving the older adult and their family members as they cope with the challenges of long term care planning.
